Conocidas or conocido

Can someone please explain to me why "conocidas" is used in this sentence instead of "conocido"?

Unos de las leyendas más conocidas ..

I thought "más conocido" would have been correct. Thanks.

Oops - should have said "Unas" - typo! - ukali, Dec 2, 2014

Well, I believe the adjective (conocidas) has to agree with what it is describing (leyendas).

"Some of the better known legends..."

No worries, Dani. I don't have nearly the knowledge you do, though I'm learning. Besides, I rarely have this much time at work. You keep posting, girl. I like it. - Winkfish, Dec 2, 2014
Besides, this was an easy one (but I still started with "I believe"!) ;-) - Winkfish, Dec 2, 2014

Because "conocidas" make to reference of the "leyendas". (are plural)

And "Más conocido" is singular.

Singular.

"Yo soy el más conocido." "Eres la más conocida."

Plural.

"Nosotros somos los más conocidos." "Nosotras somos las más conocidas."

"Ellos son los más conocidos." "Ellas con las más conocidas."

"Conocida" for women and "conocido" for men.
