Is it because I'm translating from English too literally? It took me forever to get her to play an album because I kept saying "jugar." Apparently, she uses "pon el álbum." Why?

In English we say play the album or put on the album. Pon el álbum is the same as put on the album.

In Spanish to play a musical instrument we use tocar. To play cards or games we use jugar.

Thanks mate I needed that simple explanation. - ray76, Nov 26, 2014
Thank you! Just out of curiosity, if I were to say "Juega el álbum," would I be understood? Or would it just be confusing? - glenohumeral13, Nov 26, 2014
It would surely confuse me, and I get all sorts of garbled Spanish from my students. - Daniela2041, Nov 26, 2014
I suppose that a DJ when they make all those scratching noises are juega el álbum. But other than that it would be confusing. - gringojrf, Nov 26, 2014
