silvestre ( seel-veh'-streh )

adjective ( wild )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

enter image description here

Examples:

1. Ella quiere que su ramo de boda sea de flores silvestres.

She wants her wedding bouquet to be made of wildflowers.

2. En el Cuerno de África quedan menos de 600 asnos silvestres.

There are fewer than 600 wild asses left in the Horn of Africa.

Notes:

When talking about animals, it's common to also use the word "salvaje" for "wild." Plant life, though, is usually referred to as "silvestre."

¡Que tengas un gran día!

Cuando era joven siempre fuimos al bosque en otoño para buscar cepas silvestres. Hoy en día los niños saben manejar una tableta pero no saben que es una cantarela.

When I was young we always went mushroomingin the woodlands, in the autumn, looking for wild mushrooms. Nowadays children know how to use a tablet computer but have no idea what a chanterelle is.

My Leo is a domesticated Dog but he likes to gad around the forests and pee on the wild shrubs, trees and plasts to mark his territory and to attract the Lionesses of that area, perhaps in his dreams he thinks of himself to be a ferocious and formidable Lion, but when a Lioness passes him by and when he tries to roar looking at the lioness, a puny bark comes out of his mouth (bow wow) and then he is disillusioned and realizes the truth that he is no Lion but a frolicsome, lovable little dog who can't even bite a cat, then his dream breaks off and he gets up and starts wagging his tail asking for a biscuit (forgetting the lioness of her dream).. haha

Hi Joydeep. I like your sentence really much, mostly "hacer pipí". It is the common way as the children calls the pee. The common but not the elegant way as most of the people say that is the verb "mear" - txustaboy, Nov 18, 2014
Yes, Tx ,, I wanted to make it sound a little funny .. hehe ,, first i thought of using "orniar", then "mear" and finally i settled for "hacer pipi" in the spirit of humor, haha - Joydeep_Singh, Nov 18, 2014

Encontré tanto "salvaje" y "silvestre" que se utiliza para modificar "peces." Me pregunto cual es el preferido. (A mí, no hay pregunta de cual es mejor comer.)

I found both "salvaje" and "silvestre" used to modify "fish." I wonder which is preferred. (To me, there is no question which is better to eat.)

Apoyar in this case is the perfect translation, but this "wild life" looks like more similar to "vida salvaje" talking about party. "Silvestre" not always can be replaced by "salvaje" - txustaboy, Nov 18, 2014

Donde vivo los guardabosques estatales nos permiten coleccionar un número pequeño de plantas silvestres cada año, y por eso tengo helechos y flores nativas en mi jardín, lo que se supone ser beneficioso para los pájaros y otros animales que viven en mi vecindad.

Where I live the state forest rangers allow us to collect a small number of wild plants every year, and as a result I have ferns and native flowers in my garden, which is supposed to be beneficial for the birds and other animals that live in my neighborhood.

Amby, Tu tiene una lora salvaje o formada ? Y donde está su foto, he sido esperandolo desde entonces..

Creo que "silvestre" no se puede utilizar para los animales y pajeros.

Amby, Do you have a wild parrot or a trained one ?? and why haven't you posted her picture yet, I have been waiting ever since..

Las áreas de naturaleza silvestre se están reduciendo todo el tiempo. Esto sucede pesar de que la mayoria de la gente aprecia la naturaleza y quiero preservarla.

The areas of wild nature are shrinking all the time. This happens even though most people appreciate nature and want to preserve it.
