Economy of language II
As I study spanish I find that a single word or short phrase contains all the information needed to convey a point or thought . Now english and spanish both have this "economy' of language but I am thinking spanish has the edge.
That is until I read ( actually I am in the process of reading) "El hombre de los hielos" where all that "economy of language goes straight to the devil".
Three examples:
The title of the book "El hombre de los hielos" is "the iceman" in English
la bolsa de corteza de abedul, the birch bark bag in English
Bikini wax-- This one is for you to translate, it becomes another sentence in Spanish
The purpose of my question is to ask you all to post phrases that are "clumsy" or wordy in one language and "economical" in the other. (english and spanish of course.
post in both languages to illustrate the differences, add a photo if you wish

This should be fun! Enjoy

I´m completely at a loss to see why a bikini needs to be waxed. Do they need to be waterproof? ![]()

Am I close?
I can't come up with many "economía de palabras" expressions, but Spanish has some.
"Ciencia ficción" is the first one that comes to mind. When I was in junior high, I asked my teacher if "perros calientes" was OK for hot dogs. He scowled and gave me some garbage about "salcichas americanas" a la something or other. Yo seguía con mis "perros calientes." I used to travel a lot I've been all over Mexico, Central and South America, and if the subject ever came up, I would inject my "perros calientes" And one day, to my surprise when I was digging into a new textbook to get familiar with it, what to my surprise did I see but "perros calientes" and it was in the Spanish vocabulary. Yupí!!! (Mexican for Yippee!) Well, If Mexicans can eat little burros, Americans can eat cooked dogs.. So There! This might not qualify as a proper answer, but again, that's how I look at it.
