Travesuras con palabras 14.

I Enjoy discovering words that make learning Spanish more colorful and fun.

After a few days of heavy cleanup in the house when the workers finished, I took a day to be simply lazy.

As a result of this lazyness I came upon the word "Ocioso" which fit my attitude of the day perfectly.

ocio- ocioso- ociosamente

This word is not the easiest to use, but it can lend a little humor to our daily routine and add to vocabulary.

Examples:

El jefe ya se dio cuenta que estamos ociosos.¡ Hay que hacer algo!

Otro:

¿Por qué has pasado el día ociosamente? ¿No tienes quehacer?

Nota; I did sneak a little trick in these examples, see if you find it!

Check the word and post a phrase or a sentence using it.

Post it in English as well please, add a picture if your so inclined.

Have a good laugh and enjoy!

As a learner- corrections graciously accepted.

Hola Paco,

No estoy exactamente segura que entiendo esta palabra, pero voy a tratar a hacer una [sentencia] oración.

A veces me gusta tener un día ocioso.

I am not exactly sure that I understand this word, but I am going to try to do a sentence.

Sometimes I like to take a lazy day.

Like a day off from everything (if that were possible). enter image description here

Eso es charla ociosa suficiente por un día.

That's enough idle chatter for one day.

Hmmm Hi Paco:

To me es "estar de ocio(so) or ser

El jefe ya se dio cuenta de que estamos de ociosos.¡ Hay que hacer algo!

El jefe ya se dio cuenta de que somos ociosos.¡ Hay que hacer algo!

The following sounds weird to me:

¿Por qué has pasado el día ociosamente? ¿No tienes quehacer?

Instead, I would say:

¿Por qué has pasado el día de ocio? ¿No tienes quehacer?

¿Por qué has sido un ocioso todo el día? ¿No tienes quehacer?

¿Por qué has estado de ocio(so) todo el día? ¿No tienes quehacer?

Consulta con Ana y dile hola por mí. wink

ok :) - chileno, Nov 16, 2014
Humm.... Me parece mejor decir "estar ocioso" que estar " de ocioso". La preposición en este caso es superflua. - Clío, Nov 16, 2014

In my free time, I manage very well with a little help from my friend.

En mi rato de ocio, consigo hacer muy bien con un poco de ayuda de mi amigo.

Paso mis días ociosos muy ociosamente. Aveces perezozamente.

I spend my idle days veeery idily. Sometimes lazily.

How do you make an adverb out of "idle" anyway?

I did my best. smile
