Symbols on a Spanish keyboard

Question

Hello everyone, I just got myself a Spanish keyboard to make typing all those accents simpler.

There are some symbols which I don´t understand. Can anyone tell me what these symbols mean or how they are used?

1) ª

2) º

3) ¬

4) ······ (this key is shift-3 and generates a dot about mid-letter high. I have typed 6 of them here to make them easier to see)

Now I think of it 2) may be a degree sign but what about the others? - Jacky658, Nov 15, 2014

To type accented letters you hit the key to the right of ñ (nothing happens) then hit the letter you want, now the accented letter is produced. - Jacky658, Nov 17, 2014

Actually you can change the "mapping" of your existing keyboard (most operating systems allow you to do that). You just have to paste little stickers on the keys to tell you which new symbols are produced. - Jacky658, Nov 17, 2014

Answer 1

1) The symbol ª is use to express a female ordinal.

Example: In the first floor -> En la 1ª (primera) planta.

2) If the related noum is male,you must to use "º"

Example: In the second floor -> En el 2º (primer) piso

(** Both piso (male) and planta (female) are used equally because both mean floor)

3) ¬ symbol is not an useul symbol,I never have used so I don´t know exactly how can i use it.

4) · symbol, I use as mathematic symbol meaning "product" between two values

Example: You must tighten the screw to a torque value of 12 lb·N
