Rules on Homework Assignments

Does SpanishDict have any rules on homework assignments ? I've read a number of posts where it strikes me that the contributors may be high school students trying to get other people to do their homework for them.

While I think SD is a wonderful resource for learning a language (& I certainly wish its equivalent had existed for French 30 years ago when I was at school in the Dark Ages before the internet), and while I think it must be helpful for school learners to be able to seek clarification on certain points of grammar / vocab, nonetheless it doesn't seem right that a student should expect someone else to do their homework for them lock, stock & barrel.

(a) This is unfair on their classmates who actually try & do the homework by themselves. (b) It doesn't benefit the student who simply sits back and lets someone else undertake the translation.

There were times at school when I hated having to spend hours translating passages from one language to the other with only my dictionary for company. However, after years of homework it did pay off (& by the end of school my dictionary was extremely worn & dogeared like a kind of trophy of honour).

This is what I was trying to get across, when dealing with the girl who wanted someone to translate that goofy paragraph. I would rather see - Daniela2041, Nov 7, 2014
(hit the wrong button again) I would rather see a translation with many mistakes in it, so I could go back to that student and help her to understand where and hopefully why she made her mistake. Falda-Escocesa, you are so right on, you should teach. S - Daniela2041, Nov 7, 2014
Nah, my wife's a teacher... One per family is enough :-D - Faldaesque, Nov 8, 2014

Yes, we do have a rule against doing homework for someone. If they haven't posted a reasonable attempt, we don't help them, and even if they include an attempt, we still don't flat out give them the answer. smile

I agree with you on both points, Falda. It is not beneficial to the student. Here is a copy of our Rules on SD.
