I know that the months of the year are not capitalized in Spanish, but would the month be capitalized if it were at the top of a letter or document? It seems wrong to begin a letter with "1 noviembre 2014." Thanks in advance for your help!

I would not write "1 Noviembre 2014" because it would look as strange as "november 1st, 2014". I would say never capitalize months. - Jubilado, Nov 1, 2014
It works just like English if it is the beginning of a sentence. - rac1, Nov 1, 2014
Thank you! - tuamiga1973, Nov 1, 2014
I would capitalize always (This is an opinion not a fact) - txustaboy, Nov 5, 2014

What I have been taught is that months are only capitalized within text if they are at the very beginning of the sentence or the first word of a title. What was unclear to me was whether they would be capitalized at the top of a letter, memo, or other document. What I got from your comment, Jubilado, is that they would not. I think that rac1 was just adding that they would indeed be capitalized if at the beginning of a sentence. I didn't get that rac1 was commenting on dates for a letters.

Sorry for butting in on your question, tuamiga1973 but,

I need clarification on this. Rac1 implies to capitalize if it is the beginning of a sentence.

So is it 1 Noviembre 2014 at the top of a letter? And in a sentence would you write "1 Noviembre 2014 fue una fecha muy importante..." or would you write "El 1 noviembre 2014 fue una fecha muy importante"?

But I think it is clear that this is correct: Noviembre es el undécimo mes del año.

¡Gracias! - tuamiga1973, Nov 5, 2014
I missed the point of the question "At the top of a letter or document" In which case my answer does not apply. - Daniela2041, Nov 5, 2014
