cine ( see'-neh ) enter image description here

noun ( movie theater )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. No soporto a la gente que usa su móvil en el cine.

I can't stand people who use their cell phone in the movie theater.

2. Están construyendo un nuevo cine a tres cuadras de nuestra casa.

They're building a new movie theater three blocks from our house.

Happy Halloween

Creo que Ray estaba muy contento durante su visita a Vejer de la Frontera porque hay bares sinfin pero no hay cine. El cine antiguo se ha convertido en un restaurante de moda y a Ray le gusta la comida..

I think Ray was very happy during his visit to Vejer de la Frontera because there are endless bars but there is no cinema. The old cinema has been converted into a fashionable restaurant and Ray likes his food. .

A menudo adaptan libros famosos al cine. Creo que lal más exitosa fue la película „ Lo que el viento se llevó" que aún ahora después de aproximadamente 70 años llena los cines.

Famous books are adapted often to the cinema. I believe that the most successful was the movie "Gone with the wind" that even now after approximately 70 years fills the cinemas.

I have also not gone to any cinema (we call them : picture hall or multiplexes here) - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 31, 2014

And amigo, please just put an accent over the "a" in "alquilarlos" I couldn't put the accents as I don't know how to, using my conventional key board .. haha - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 31, 2014
I still like going to the the theatre and to the theater. :) - rac1, Oct 31, 2014
Sorry, one too many the's. - rac1, Oct 31, 2014
I don't see where that word needs an accent j. ????? - Jraider, Oct 31, 2014
Alquilar doesn't need any accent standing alone .. but once you add the DOP "los" an accent is required to retain the stress at the original location (grammar rule) - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 31, 2014
It's not the cinemas you rent, it's the films! No voy al cine nomás , aquilo las películas/ DVDs de una machina.. - annierats, Oct 31, 2014

When I was little, there was a small theatre in our little town called "The Star".

Cuando era una niña, había un cine pequeño en nuestro pueblo que se llamó "La Estrella".

Once inside the movie theatre there were only two of us. Later we found why. It was the most boring movie ever.

Una vez en el cine había sólo dos de nosotros. Más adelante descubrimos por qué. Fue la película más aburrida alguna vez.

Porque es el 31 de octubre, en los cines de los Estados Unidos hay muchas peliculas de terror. Creo que la causa es de ser la víspera de la fiesta de Todos Santos y la mayoría de los estadounidenses no celebra o no conoce esta festividad religiosa. Pero muchos sí celebran y conocen “Halloween” - una celebración divertida de cosas aterradores.

Because it is October 31st, in the movie theaters of the USA there are many horror films. I think the reason is it being the eve of the feast of All Saints and the majority of Americans don’t celebrate or know of this religious feast. But many celebrate and know of Halloween - a fun celebration of scary things.

Ya no voy al cine con frecuencia, pero hoy en día cuando voy, normalmente mi esposa escoge un cine en el que hay butacas y sofás, no más de treinta personas, y donde nos sirvieron cerveza, vino, y comida.

I do not go to the movie theatre very often anymore, but nowadays when I do, my wife usually chooses a theatre in which there are armchairs and sofas, no more than thirty people, and where they serve us beer, wine and food.

Grief, never come to Europe, our cinemas are a bit oldfashioned, although in Korea they have cosy chambers for rent.. - annierats, Oct 31, 2014

En el cine Teresa podías ver dos películas por el mismo boleto, y había permanencia voluntaria. Ahora es una plaza comercial.

In the movie theater "Teresa" you could watch two movies for the same price, and there were back to back shows. Nowadays it has been converted to a shoping center.

Me gusta mucho el cine. Intento ir a alguna pelicula que ha tenido una buena crítica, si parece un tipo que me gusta. Usualmente voy a un cine de arte cerca de mi casa. Este año la mejor pelicula que he visto se llama "Sunshine on Leith". Es de Escosia y es muy muy divertida. Les recomiendo mucho a mis amigos en SpanishDict!

I like the cinema very much. I try to see any film that has had a good review, if it seems the kind I like. Usually I go to an art-house cinema near my house. This year the best film I have seen is called "Sunshine on Leith". It is Scottish and is very enjoyable. I greatly recommend it to my friends on SpanishDict.
