Can anyone help me translate this phrase as part of spanish prep? It would help alot;

If I was the mayor, I would install(or put in, provide, ect...) new facilities for local gyms to encourage people to be more active.

So far I have;

Si fueron la mayor....

Si fueron la mayor... would mean: If they were the mayor...

And you want "If I were because this is English contrary to fact subjunctive followed by the conditional expressed by "would" in English.

Bosquerobl comment answer is correct. Whatever verb you choose to follow - install, put in, provide - will be in the first person singular conditional ("I" is the subject), you can look up that tense formation on this site under Menu / Conjugation then type in the infinitive of the Spanish verb you want to use.

Good luck in your studies! If you plan on using the forum again, please fill out your profile with English and Spanish levels of proficiency. Though your post is generally well written please remember that language names are capitalized in English - Spanish, French, German while in Spanish they are not español, francés, alemán.
