"Cada" is an adjective that doesn't have to match gender. Does anyone have any insights as to why?

I tried a quick online search but couldn't find anything definite. I think it may be the only totally invariable adjective in Spanish. The answer that Jorgegrau gave seems vague at best. - Jubilado, Oct 21, 2014

There are many adjectives that don't have to match the gender of the noun they modify because they are invariable.

Most of them end in -a, -e or a consonant:

e.g.: cada, naranja, verde, grande, azul, débil...
