crudo ( kroo'-doh )

adjective ( raw, undercooked )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. Odio tocar el pollo crudo. ¡Qué asco!

I hate touching raw chicken. How disgusting!

2. ¡Mesero! Este bistec que me trajo está crudo.

Waiter! This steak you brought me is undercooked.

Happy Wednesday

So many words in Spanish have multiple meanings, I just could not resist using this word in a colloquial Mexican way.

'Gracias a la fiesta que tuvimos anoche, hoy nos levantamos crudos!"

"Thanks to the party we had last night we woke up this morning with a hangover"

El steak tartar de solomillo ternera es un alimiento crudo que consiste en solomillo de mejor calidad, trinchado a mano , y se come con un huevo de corral bien fresquito.

Steak tartare is a raw foodstuff and it's made from top quality, hand-minced steak, served with a very fresh free-range egg.

One of those differences in American vs English usage: we use the term "ground" beef (steak) rather than "minced" beef (steak).. - Jubilado, Oct 15, 2014
You forgot the onions and pepper amiga. - ian-hill, Oct 15, 2014
I don't think you have onion, Ian, just raw steak, with a raw egg on top? But pepper yes, and salt! - annierats, Oct 15, 2014

curar would be better in my opinion because aliviar i think is only a temporary relief ,, not a permanent cure .. - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
Yes Jimmy...asthma really has no permanent cure.We just manage the symptoms when they come, thats why I used the term 'relieve' - osas-baby, Oct 15, 2014
ok hermana ,, then I misunderstood - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
For a permanent cure one could eat more (like one Kilo of cebollas at once hahaha) - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014

Las verduras crudas proporcionan más vitaminas al organismo como las cocinadas, pero el jamón crudo es una tentación verdadera.

Raw vegetables provide more vitamins to the body as the cooked ones, but the raw ham is a real temptation .

Soy un vegiteriano y por eso odio tocar el pollo crudo pero aun asi tengo que tocarlo para mi Leo.. porque es un Perro y a el le hace falta la carne en una forma o la otra en su dieta para alimentarlo adequadamente ..

I am a vegetarian and thus I hate touching raw meat (even cooked meat for that matter) but even then I have to touch it for my my Leo as being a Dog he needs to be fed meat in some or the other form to maintain his nutritional needs (Dog's can't thrive on Vegan proteins alone as Veggie proteins are incomplete in their Amino acid profiles and Dogs are not obligate carnivores like Cats but they do need some animal protein like Eggs, Meat, little bit of dairy to maintain their normal body functions else their kidneys and liver can wear out more quickly as a result of having to process the veggie proteins which are difficult to assimilate for their primarily carnivore bodies),, Humans do better on Veggies though as we have longer intestines appropriate to digest veggy food and our enzymes are more appropriate to digest veggy stuff, our GI track is less acidic making it more suitable to digest humble vegitiables and grains as opposed to heavy meats and eggs which require a lot of HCL (hydro chloric acid) to be digested (lot of other technicalities hehe) I personally feel ... That humans were never meant to be meat eaters (which is one reason why we don't have those big fangs/canine teeth like dogs. Lions etc. ) but just my personal belief .. hehe

Las cebollas crudas me dan las agruras (se dice en México) o acidez (en otros lugares pero no rima). En efecto crudas y agruras no riman mas se acercan a rimar.

Raw onions give me heartburn (agruras in Mexican Spanish) or acidez (elsewhere, but it doesn’t rhyme). Actually crudas y agruras don’t rhyme but they come close.

I love cebollas ,, More than just a tasty culinary plant, the onion contains natural sugar, vitamins A, B6, C and E, minerals such as sodium, potassium, iron and dietry fibre. In addition, onions are a good source of folic acid. - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014

it contains a compound called allyl propyl disulphide, which is thought to have a similar effect to insulin in balancing blood sugar levels. - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
and has many other medicinal properties too.. But should be had in moderation (excess of every thing is bad) .. A word of caution though .. Never give onions to your dogs .. Onions are highly toxic to Dogs and can even kill them if they consume too much - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
and as for your heart burning .. you may consume some alkaline foods like papaya, coconut water etc. to balance the PH in your tummy (to counter the acidic effect of cebollas) as long as the correct PH balance is maintained in your tummy you won't have - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
those acid refluxes (commonly known as heart burns) ,, Indian herbs like "triphala" and "avipatikar churna" etc. can help a great deal - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
Also try cold fresh (unboiled) milk ,,it does simmer down the acidity - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
