What word in spanish is similar or equal to "badass" and is put in a positive light. For me the word "badass" is not a negative or vulgar word, you can use it with anyone in the States.

For example: You see someone pull up in a nice custom made car. You would say: "Dude, that's sooo badass!!!

Well... I regard this as an offensive word, even if only mildly so. I would be cautious using this with just anyone.

I don't think chévere works here though, but maybe Bosquederoble is right. Chévere expresses more or less the same thing.

I have a brother-in-law who used to do a catering service called badass barbecue. It just basically is a modern macho version of saying cool as I understand it. :) - bosquederoble, Oct 14, 2014
Qué padre may be another option, I'll add that. - bosquederoble, Oct 14, 2014
Macho, AKA, slightly offensive male conduct :) I'm extremely careful how certain words might register for people, so this word is a no no for me. - 00ffada9, Oct 14, 2014
Yes, definitely macho and a bit obnoxious. ;) - bosquederoble, Oct 14, 2014
I agree with HCA,, for me it is an offensive word too .. - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
Words are just that-words- offensive or not it is better to know than to be ignorant of them - pacofinkler, Oct 15, 2014

what about: malvado - bluebit25, Oct 14, 2014
I am not familiar enough with slang to know if malvado is used that way- I will admit I like the chingón suggested by jphip. :) - bosquederoble, Oct 14, 2014

In Puerto Rico ... badass is:

Brutal, de madre, carbon, exagerado, and much much more.

Spanish is so very diverse from country to country and region to region that there are as many ways to say this as there are variations in the language. Slang of course is a moving target. All above are acceptable in their respective localities A word of caution though -what can be complimentary in one locale could be an insult in another.

Yes, an example could be the word "amante" which is not a bad word as per the dictionary and it just means a lover ... but when I used it with my mexican frend she got offended and said it means a bi#$^ (like a mistress) .. so seems that in mexico it has - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014
a negative connotation - Joydeep_Singh, Oct 15, 2014

¡Qúe chingón está tu carro nuevo, güey! (Mex.)

I would use chévere like above.

¡Qué chévere está tu carro nuevo, mano!
