In english, we use "cleft construction" for emphasizing on subject. Could you help me how can i emphasize on subject in spanish? For clearfying please translate these sentences:

I washed myself in bathroom.

I am the one who washed him in bathroom.

I am the one who washed myself in bathroom.

Can "A si mismo" be used for this purpose?

In English, you can use something called a "cleft construction":

"I am the one who washed him."

Another example:

You are blaming other people for this situation, but you are the one who caused it." (i.e. you yourself caused it)

It's called a "cleft" construction because it is "split." The subject comes outside of the original clause; there is a new verb "to be"; the old subject position is replaced by "the one who" (or a similar relative clause).

You can use this to emphasize other things besides the subject.

"I sent you this book itself." -> "This is the book that I sent you."

PS I see that your original question was more about Spanish, and my answer is more about English. Hope it helps anyway! - JDB1920, Oct 5, 2014

I washed myself inthe sea. Me bañé/ me lavé en el mar( the place makes no difference)

I washed him in the puddle - Lo lavé en el charco. ( yo).

I am the one who washed myself in bathroom. Me lavé en el baño//. Fui yo que me lavé en el baño. ( But this seems overstressed to me, I cannot imagine a situation where this sentence would be useful , unless you carry Ebola or something))

@ian-hill I change my example, maybe it helps:

  • Mario told me that your father washed Smith yesterday. Is it the truth?
  • No, I (not another one) washed him in bathroom.

  • Mario told me that your father washed you yesterday. Is it the truth?

  • No, I (not another one) washed myself in bathroom.

"Is it the truth", or "Is it true" "No, I washed myself in the bathroom." - rac1, Oct 5, 2014

If the subject is 1st or 2nd person, merely using a subject pronoun conveys that emphasis: - JDB1920, Oct 5, 2014
Yo lo lavé en el baño. Or for added emphasis, the pronoun can come later: Lo lavé yo (mismo). - JDB1920, Oct 5, 2014
"washed" You need to use the article, "the" in your sentences in English. "Spanish" should be capitalized also. :) - rac1, Oct 5, 2014
