Hola, Pablo, puedes encontrar en español lo que puse en "la palabra del día - mudo". No pude encontrar esta cita de Unamuno en español. Quizás es una traducción libre. En PM por favor. - Jubilado, Oct 3, 2014

Hello Philip

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

Please also include an English translation so we know exactly what you are trying to say. This is vital for accurate translation of text; as also is context.

For example: Cuando el niño llegó a casa. El niño muestra a su nueva rata.

You have mixed both past and present tense here and it sounds odd! I do not believe that this it is good Spanish to do this!

You need to choose to either use the preterite/simple past tense and say:

When the boy arriveD home, he showeD his new rat to his brother

= Cuando el niño llegó a casa, muestró la nueva rata a su hermano.

Or use the present indicative tense and write:

When the boy arriveS home, he showS his new rat to his brother

= Cuando el niño llega a casa, muestra su neuva rata a su hermano.

The next bit would be : The boy's brorher thinks = El hernano del niño piensa etc....

The advantage of using the present tense in writing narrative is that it can bring the story (or text) to life by making it sound like it it is taking place right now! It gives it a sense of immediacy! wink

I hope this helps wink

He may have wanted to practice using the various forms of past tense. That's my take on it. He wrote "me hermano" instead of "mi hermano". - Jubilado, Oct 3, 2014
Yes , Jubilado thats' fine :) I was simply pointing out that mixing up the tenses in the way that s/he did, did not look or sound right - FELIZ77, Oct 3, 2014

Little busy right now ,, but will atleast do the first line for you, others can help you with the rest or I can try catching up later on ..

First line ..Cuango llegó El niño a casa, le mostró su nueva rata a su hermano quien empezó a pensar que yo también debo adoptar un animal or yo tambien voy a adoptar un animal ..

I won't ever use comprar (to buy) for an animal ,, many people do ,, but I won't ever use it ... adoptar (To adopt) sounds more humane ... as our pets are like our own kids and we don't buy our kids ,, hope most would agree. hehe
