Hi,

I saw the following sentence in the book "Camino al español" page 23.

¿Cómo conoce Rosario a Elena?

I was wondering what 'a' means here between Rosario and Elena? And what would be the translation of this sentence?

Thanks,

This is the personal "a"- existant people as direct objects require a personal "a".

If it were not a question it would be:

Rosario conoce a Elena. Rosario knows Elena.

In questions, typically the subject follows the verb. Rosario is the subject, Elena the direct object.

Subjects do not get a personal "a" but objects do.

The question asks "how does Rosario know Elena?"
