Audio From Ads

Audio From Ads

When I'm using this site I am frequently on other sites too, such as YouTube. Out of the blue I get audio from ads on this site (refer to boxes that play ads on the right side of the screen) while I'm listening to things like YouTube. Depending on how I have the volume adjusted the audio from these ads can come in quite loud. Is there a way to prevent the audio from the ads from coming through? I wish the audio would never pop up unless I press a play button.

That does sound annoying! Luckily I've never encountered it, perhaps because I use AdBlock and it seems to work very well. So try that; if you find that it blocks flashcards as well, it just takes a click or two to tell it to leave those things.

Downloaded adblock plus, I have no idea how to control it but now I have no ads, the flashcards and youtube work, and I can type without it dropping my letters. Best fix ever. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 20, 2014

Do you know where I find it if I ever have to control it- IE on windows 8. - bosquederoble, Sep 20, 2014
Oh, I found it, it is a little icon in the bottom right. - bosquederoble, Sep 20, 2014
Glad to help! - JDB1920, Sep 20, 2014
Thanks again, I put it on my windows 7 system for chrome- there the icon is in the top right. Hopefully the person asking the question benefits as well. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 20, 2014
Actually I think that is firefox. I use a different browser on every computer. For some odd reason. - bosquederoble, Sep 21, 2014
I use Chrome and mine is in the top right hand corner of the page. - rac1, Sep 21, 2014
I haven't done it yet for the computer I use chrome on. - bosquederoble, Sep 21, 2014

I think the ads stop when you have a certain number of reputation points.

I don't get any of those ads. smile

It is supposed to be beyond 4000- I am a bit past that. :( - bosquederoble, Sep 20, 2014
In the last week, they have been popping up on mine too. - katydew, Sep 21, 2014
I know they use these adds as a way of helping to pay for the site, but they are annoying...that's why I got addblock. I have no problems at all now. - rac1, Sep 21, 2014

Let me second how incredibly annoying this is. At times it can make it so that I cannot use the site.

There are ad suppressing programs out there, but they suppress other things, and for me they suppress the flashcards- at least the last time I tried one. Perhaps someone knows one that will suppress the ads without suppressing important functionality.

The worst was when I was actually doing the listen part of a flashcard set, and the ad came blaring out. How on earth is one expected to do that with blaring ads. You can't even hear the words.

I sent something to the feedback button a week or two ago complaining about that and the fact that when you type something into one of the boxes it randomly drops letters. I have not gotten any reply.

I have even left the browser up, locked my profile and left the computer only to have something start blaring out. :( - bosquederoble, Sep 20, 2014
