If you have a donut in one room and a bagel in another, you can predict with 100% accuracy which room the policeman will enter first ;) - Helado_eclectico, Sep 17, 2014

A doughnut is sweet and often sticky. It might have a custard filling, and it will often have some sort of topping.

A bagel is more like a breakfast food. It isn't very sweet, but it's quite chewy. It normally has cheese or jam on top.

Bagels are part of Jewish cuisine and doughnuts are part of Christian cuisine.

Actually, in Mexico a doughnut is just called "la dona". Churros are similar in taste and ingredients, but they are long and straight and crispy and much thinner than doughnuts.

A bagel is savory, and the dough is boiled before baking.

A doughnut is sweet and fried.

Annie , do not worry I only look and admire ,I never touch anymore ,I cannot remember the last time I ate one , as a young guy in Canada broke and jobless I lived on coffee and donuts for 10 cents. - ray76, Sep 18, 2014

Doughnuts are fried in hot fat, often contain jam and are always coated in sugar. They are truly fattening and very unhealthy. They exist in Europe and in America. In Europe they are eaten as a snack, not for breakfast. Children like them.

Bagels exist mainly in the USA, I think. From what I have read and seen in films they are eaten in cafés for breakfast and can possibly have healthier fillings such as cheese or ham. They are a type of bread and not deepfried.
