Well, let's improve on the English sentence a little, first, so that the translation into Spanish will be correct/ accurate:

Rosemary is knocking on her best friend's front door = Rosemary está golpeando la puerta de la calle de su mejor amiga.

Rosemary is banging on her best friend's door = Rosemary está aporreando (o golpeando) la puerta de su mejor amiga.

Corrections:

In Spanish, you always use the verb estar to form the present progressive tense:

ex: S/he is running, jumping, banging on the door etc...Está corriendo, está saltando, está aporreando en la puerta etc...

This tense is used to refer to actions that are actually taking place now! /At the actual time you are describing the action!

For example, if you see a girl kissing her boyfriend in the street right now, you can say:
