Can someone make sure this is correct?
I had to write a paper for college using these instructions:
So you are here… you have survived at least a little bit of campus life and probably have some thoughts on what students should/shouldn’t do to get ready for the first week of classes. Your job is to write an open letter to next year’s incoming students to help them get ready for Westminster. Think of things that you recommend they do (or don’t do) and use the subjunctive (noun clauses) to let them know. Think of things that they should (or shouldn’t) do or have before they get here and use the subjunctive triggering phrases (adverbial clauses) to inform them. Include a little information about what isn’t here too and use the subjunctive (adjectival phrases) to let them know what not to worry about. Got it? Good!
This is my paper: Hola estudiantes, bienvenido a Westminster. Como un estudiante nuevo, hay muchas cosas debe saber. Aquí hay algunos consejos para ayudarle. Antes que nada, a Westminster insistamos que usted cumple compañeros de clase. Es importante conocer nueva gente desde está universidad. También, recomendamos que compras tus libros lo antes posible a fin de que los tiene para clase. A Westminster, exigimos que ir a clase en tiempo. Clase debe ser tu prioridad número uno. Junto con ese, debe siempre tener deberes hechos para que puedes tener buenas notas. Con tal de está compartiendo una cuarto con alguien, es importante que debes empacar muchas cosas en caso de que no hay mucho espacio. A condición de que tendrá mucho trabajo, no debe fiesta frecuencia. Sólo queremos lo mejor para nuestros estudiantes para que pueden tener éxito. No es positivo en lo que quieres estudiar? Todas las universidades tienen muchos primero año estudiantes que no saben lo que quieren estudiar, es está bien. No te preocupes, puede utilizar su primer año como un tiempo para explorar diferentes clases. En esta ciudad, no hay mucho que hacer pero nos aseguramos que tendrá una experiencia maravillosa aquí. The content of your paper is very nice, but the problem is that you haven't used the subjunctive at all. You should refer back to your grammar book, or the links that someone else has posted on this site.
As a quick example to point you in the right direction, consider your sentence, Recomendamos que compras tus libros... The part beginning with que is called a "noun clause" (using the terminology of your assignment) because it could take the place of a noun. For example, the waiter in a restaurant might say:
Recomiendo [el pollo]. "I recommend [the chicken]."
The part in brackets, [el pollo], is a noun - the direct object of the verb recomiendo. The same verb can take a clause as its direct object:
Recomiendo [que compres tus libros]... "I recommend [that you buy your books]..." Noun clauses require the verb to be in the subjunctive mood; usually this means that the vowel is different (here, compres instead of compras).
It seems like you have forgotten (or never learned) the subjunctive forms of verbs. This is what the assignment wants you to practice, so you should be sure to go back and learn/review those forms.
