verano ( veh-rah'-noh )

noun ( summer )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

2. En el hemisferio sur, el verano dura de diciembre a marzo.

If you are sad that summer is almost over in your latitude, travel south and enjoy it again.

Si está triste que el verano está casi terminado en su latitud, viaje en dirección sur y disfrútelo otra vez.

It's always summer here, well, almost always. Our winters may see a couple of cooler days. - rac1, Sep 13, 2014
Same here .. any one who wishes to encounter the real summer with some amazing UV rays.. be my guest .. but don't complain later .. haha - 00b055e0, Sep 13, 2014

No me gustan los veranos porque vivo en un país que está muy cerca de ecuator y hace mucho calor acá a lo largo del verano y ademas los veranos son muy largos acá .. mas o menos nueve o diez meses y el invierno dura sólo dos o tres meses ... Verano es una palabra muy desagradable para los indos y nos da mucho miedo .. hehe .. pero inviernos son muy bonitos .. hehe

I don't like summers as I live in a country that lies along the line of equator and it is very hot over here all along the summer season and more over summers are very long here, around 9 to 10 months and the winters last for 2 or 3 months only.. Summer is an unpleasant word for most Indians and is intimidating for us hehe .. but winters are cool and beautiful .. I love winters .. Like Donald Duck .. haha smile

El verano es muy bonito, pero desde el cambio de clima estoy un poco descontenta, porque no puedo aguantar el calor sin climatización.

The summer is very nice, but since climate change, I am a little unhappy, because I can not endure the heat without air conditioning.

Come to my country once, in the month of june, i promise you will start loving the summers of your country .. hehe - 00b055e0, Sep 13, 2014
Beautiful pic! - rac1, Sep 13, 2014
it's okay but 'sin aire acondicionado' sounds more natural, even on the right context you can say only 'aire'---'no puedo aguantar el calor sin aire' :) - 003e54f5, Sep 13, 2014

En mi ciudad se dice podemos tener "cuatro temporadas en un día", pero este mes la parte que es verano está aumentando.

In my city they say we can have "four seasons in one day", but this month the part which is summer is increasing.

The end of summer is like the end of a romance for me.

El final del verano es como el fin de un romance para mí.

It's different from summer in India . . . "Indian summer" (noun): a period of warm weather in late autumn or early winter; a happy or pleasant period near the end of someone's life, career, etc. - - Esteban_317, Sep 13, 2014
It is beautiful. :) - rac1, Sep 13, 2014
Ohh good you elaborated ,, cos the literal indian summer is horrible .. hehe - 00b055e0, Sep 13, 2014
typo: "Gusta"... - rac1, Sep 13, 2014
Well, it actually should be "me gusta" - 00b055e0, Sep 13, 2014

Viajo en los Estados Unidos durante los meses del verano solamente, pero viajo a otros lugares cálidos durante todo el año.

I travel in the United States during the summer months only, but I travel to other warm places throughout the year.

Annie, if you have no time you can't travel. Live peacefully. That's important. - Raja-jani, Sep 14, 2014
Esteban, you're right. With the kind of guesses you make, you could hit a jackpot one day :) - Raja-jani, Sep 14, 2014
Raja, your user name sounds Indian .. hehe .. it means a King in hindi :) - 00b055e0, Sep 14, 2014

As for me, I've got only one problem with the summer time : it doesn't last long enough.

En cuanto a mí, tengo sólo un problema con el período de verano: no dura mucho tiempo.

Como es casi el final de verano, y la temporada de fútbol americano ha empezado, mi esposa cree que un hombre, y más específicamente este hombre, debería ver los partidos con ella, y no debería estudiar nada, y por eso no he sido capaz de colgar ningún mensaje antes de ahora.

As it is almost the end of summer, and football season has begun, my wife thinks that a man, and more specifically this man, should watch the games with her, and not study anything, and because of this I have not been capable of posting anything before now.

Capaz de in my opinion talks about the inherent abilities and capabilities .. but I may be wrong on this one - 00b055e0, Sep 14, 2014
and I think ,, it should be "el fin de verano" not final .. but again ,, Pablo can tell better .. I am just a novicio (novice) ,, hehe - 00b055e0, Sep 14, 2014
I vacilated about using capaz there- but would have replaced it with "no he podido colgar ningún..." I also vacilated final vs. fin- as I always do. I do think colgar can be used (at least from vocabulary learned from Spain). - bosquederoble, Sep 14, 2014
Sometimes I post things that may be a bit iffy, as a sneaky way of trying to see if it is acceptable usage. I do appreciate you comments, Jimmy, because they always make me think of other ways of doing things. - bosquederoble, Sep 14, 2014
Abd I like to know more than one way of saying things. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 14, 2014
I saw this one last night and I didn't see any mistake but something natural would be 'y por eso no pude poner ningún mensaje' (antes 'que' ahora isn't necessary). - 003e54f5, Sep 14, 2014
anyway 'por eso no he sido capaz de colgar ningún mensaje.' is perfect :) - 003e54f5, Sep 14, 2014
Gracias, Pablo. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 14, 2014
And thank you to everyone. - bosquederoble, Sep 15, 2014
