Resultar or Ser?

Resultar or Ser?

When expressing how something is to (or affects) a person, what is the difference between using resultar and ser?

For example:

"Me fue una buena experiencia." - "It was a fine experience for me."

"Me resultó una buena experiencia." - "It was a fine experience for me."

In this context are the two verbs basically interchangeable?

You could use either one, but the wording with resultó sounds a little strange. To use this word it would sound more natural to say: Resulta que me fue una buena experiencia. But this has a nuance of the good experience being somewhat unexpected.

I agree with El Don Rey here. Fue una buena experiencia. And resultó, like Julian said, hits the ear kind of funny. You don't want to say era either. - jphip, Sep 13, 2014
When you use "resultar" usually you make a point/ explain something and say how it turned out. - jphip, Sep 13, 2014
You are simply saying that it was a good experience. - jphip, Sep 13, 2014
