The word hurt in English
I have a question about that word. English is not my first language. when someone asks you are you hurt does that also include pain? What else other than bruises, scrapes?

To me hurt means injured- to be damaged in some way. That can include pain but implies the pain is due to an injury.
Do you hurt?= are you in pain? (dolor)
Are you hurt?= are you injured in some way? (lesión, herida, daño)
That can include any type of injury- scrapes, bruises, sprains, strains, something internal, broken bones, any injury. Pain is often a symptom telling you that something is injured, but the second question focuses on the injury more than the pain, the first focuses on the pain.
That is how I see it.
Let me add that "are you hurt" in the right context can refer to emotional "hurt".
Hello Rey
What a great question! ![]()
My understanding as a native English speaker is that in English, the word hurt can refer to any kind of pain; whether physical or emotional, whereas the word injured is usually used to refer to physical pain. but on occasions is used to refer to injured pride .
Here are some examples of usage:
ex The dog appearad to be in great pain so the lady took it to a vet.
ex "He is suffering from injured pride, nothing worse but he will make a full recovery mark my words and you will see a changed man, a wiser man no less!"
ex: His pride has been hurt nothing worse etc...
Wife: "You hurt my feelings when you refused to listen to me"
Intense mental pain is often referred to using words such as torment ex: They say that she has been suffering mental torment
I hope this helps ![]()
