Wedding Traditions

Recently, while watching one of the numerous wedding shows on the television, I heard that the price for most wedding dresses can be more than that of a car! I'm all for people splurging on a piece of clothing if they really love it, but $10,000 dollars?

Is this tradition only in America, or do other cultures also encourage ridiculously expensive wedding traditions?

Many thanks!

It depends on what is more important to someone, just like anything else. :) - rac1, Sep 8, 2014
Whatever turns one on I guess , but it is a waste when Children are starving to death. - ray76, Sep 8, 2014
Well, the thing is, Ray, there is enough for every need to be met. Plus it's no different than say, spending money on travel for pleasure of cars or whatever else one may desire. - rac1, Sep 8, 2014
"or cars" sorry, typo - rac1, Sep 8, 2014
You are correct Annie , we have no right to criticise , and it does spread the money around - ray76, Sep 8, 2014

It is ridiculous isn't it. That money would be much better used on a down payment for a house or an investment for the education of the children to come.

Obviously to some this is pocket change but many middle class families spend far more than they can afford on weddings.

Sorry English only for now.

I agree with you mate , it would be much better to spend the money on a long term

guarantee that the affair is going to last .But it does create employment for many.

At least here is one girl that believes in saving a few dollars .
