Is it "Por" or "para"

Is it "Por" or "para"

"Por el resto del día" o "Para el resto del día"

Quiero decir,"I want to stay in my house for the rest of the day."

Escribí: "Quiero quedarme en mi casa para el resto del día."

Responder en el Inglés o en el Español.

¿Es correcto? (:

Muchas gracias a todos

Quiero quedarme en casa durante el resto del dia (sounds better.) "por" could work. - jphip, Aug 27, 2014

In Spanish from Spain you can use no preposition i.e:

Quiero quedarme en mi casa para el resto del día.

If you have/want to use one preposition, though, por is a good choice.

You know I find that to be very true. As a non-native speaker I tend to use many por, para, a, etc a lot more than native speakers. I think it is me forcing English syntax into my Spanish. - gringojrf, Aug 27, 2014
I agree. It happens to me from Spanish to English. - RelaxingCup, Aug 27, 2014
Lol I am sure I also do it from time to time :) I would have said/suggested/recommended ' por' if You hadn't already given your answer, Relaxing :) - FELIZ77, Aug 27, 2014
However, your excellent answer reminds me that in Spain they use no preposition in this kind of situation and as I am learning Castellano, I will - FELIZ77, Aug 27, 2014
(I will) try to remember this point and apply it to my Spanish (practise it) - FELIZ77, Aug 27, 2014

Click here for a good SD reference article

You can find lots of these if you try hard enough - for some reason they are almost "hidden"

Good luck

Home > Topics > Advanced por vs. para (DREEMS vs. PRODDS)

I agree Ian. If you look at the top of your link the above link is shown. But if you click on Menu there is no listing for Topics.

You can find this at Menu> Grammar> Advanced por vs para

Por = A duration of time

Tengo que trabajar por ocho horas hoy. (I need to work for eight hours today.)

I think it is por. The above is from the Grammar section available on the Menu.
