jefe heh'-feh

noun ( boss, manager, leader )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. Susy is unable to continue with this task as she has other obligations that require her attention. In the meantime, please help one another out as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Mi jefe me gritó en el trabajo hoy y me hizo llorar.

My boss yelled at me at work today and made me cry.

2. La jefa de ese departamento es una mujer muy talentosa.

The manager of that department is a very talented woman.

¡Feliz Martes!

Almost :) - Raja-jani, Aug 26, 2014
My guess is that in Spanish it would be tampoco rather than también, especially as the formal English might be "neither do I". - bosquederoble, Aug 26, 2014
lucky you...Hola. - osas-baby, Aug 26, 2014
Should this be "Ni yo tampoco" and "Me neither"?? - Jubilado, Aug 26, 2014
Gracias a todos :) - Raja-jani, Aug 26, 2014
I think .. yo tampoco is sufficient .. either "ni yo" ,, or "yo tampoco" - 00b055e0, Aug 26, 2014

Hace muchos años me mandaron a un curso en el que aprendí que un jefe bueno escucha a sus empleados, quienes entienden cómo efectuar el trabajo, y hace cambios de basados en las sugerencias de los empleados. A veces me pregunto si cualquiera de mis jefes asistió alguna vez a entrenamiento semejante.

Many years ago, they sent me to a course in which I learned that a good boss listens to his employees, who understand how to carry out the job, and makes changes based on the employee’s suggestions. At times I wonder if any of my bosses ever attended similar training.

Amigo, el entranamiento es "un training" para deportes en mi punto de vista ... y va a ser mejor decir "la formación" que se utiliza en especial sobre "job-trainings" .... please let me know though if you think that I am wrong .. hehe - 00b055e0, Aug 26, 2014
I think entrenamiento can be used, but probably as in English, it leans to other things- Formación is a nice word, thank you for reminding me of it. :) - bosquederoble, Aug 26, 2014
el adestramiento is more general and can be used in all contexts I think but I have heard and read the el etrenamiento is more sports specefic ,, but may be you can seek advice from a native .. I am jist sharing what I have read .. hehe .. I may be wrong - 00b055e0, Aug 27, 2014

La alegría consiste en no tener jefe, al menos es lo que piensa este jubilado contento. ¿Qué me dijiste, mi amor?

Joy is not having a boss, at least that's what this happy retired man thinks. "What's that, sweetie?"

Antes de mi jubilación, era el jefe de 12 personas en mi avión. Pero sabíamos quien es la jefa actualmente.

Before my retirement, I was the boss of 12 people in my aircraft. But we know who the boss is these days.

When I walk my dog, she always wants to be the boss and sometimes I let her.

Cuando paseo a la perra, siempre quiere ser el jefa y a veces le deje.
