What do I do now?

Question

Hi everybody! My name is Reese, and I've been studying Spanish for almost two years now. I have reached an intermediate level of speaking, and can hold an easy conversation for a while. I know I still have a lot of room for for improvement, but I don't know what to do. It seems that every time I look for a program or lesson, it is either easy and for beginners, or extremely hard for advanced speakers. I can't seem to find anything meant for intermediate speakers. Anything would be helpful. Studying tips, programs, websites, or anything for speakers with a general knowledge of Spanish would be great. Thank you! -Reese

I recommend a magazine called Think Spanish. Just google the name to see what it offers. I use it and it has helped me enormously. It's definitely too difficult for beginners, but not too advanced either.

You could check out the website now called Yabla, but previously known as: LoMás TV, which offers a range of short Spanish videos in which natives speak on a wide range of different things. The videos are graded form 1/2 * stars (beginner) to 5 ***** for more advanced learners.

You can watch the videos with/without the Spanish text and English translations and take part in a short test in which you fill in the mising words

I am not sure where you are based. I'm in the UK and so tend to use sites fromSpain. I regularly recommend sites so it may be worth searching the site for peoples recommendations. 1. I subscribe to this magazine - the articles are graded and there are videos and exercises. It is free:

1. Notes in Spanish - an excellent site with podcasts on a variety of subjects - try intermediate and if to easy try Advanced. Gold 1 and 2 are advanced but try them.

The Embassies encourage the learning of Spanish. In the UK they have TECLA - again graded and with the answers. If you are based elsewhere try Australia/USA/Canada/France.

I could go on - basically try sites which grade material. Intermediate is B1.

Try some radio or TV in Spanish. Ilike RTVE. They have started subtitling some programmes.
