Esta noche? -- why esta?

Hi,
I'm wondering...
"esta noche" means "tonight," right? Why does it use esta and not ser?
By the way, I searched on the site for this question... And I didn't find an answer. If there is already a thread on this, then I'm sorry, but I would really like an answer to my question instead of people telling me that somebody already asked this question.

Dear Sheesh4, you've confused the demonstrative pronoun esta with the 3rd person singular of the verb estar.
Esta means this, so literally "this night" = tonight in English.
By the way this makes more logical sense to say "this" rather than "to" as we do in English to designate the current evening.
