edificio ( eh-dee-fee'-syoh )

noun ( building )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. Susy is unable to continue with this task as she has other obligations that require her attention. In the meantime, please help one another out as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

He was the envy of many, but his life was like a building built too close to the shore. He didn’t know that at that moment a tsunami was heading his way...

Él era la envidia de muchos, pero su vida era como un edificio construido demasiado cerca de la orilla. No sabía que en ese momento un tsunami se dirigía a su camino...

Las golondrinas son aves queridas en el norte de Europa. Llegan en abril y hacen sus nidos de barro debajo de los techos de nuestros edificios. The swallows are much loved birds in Norten Europe. , They arrve in April and makes their nest under the overhanging roofs of our buildings.

Monday is often considered unlucky. The fact that you have to go to the office building is proof of this.

El lunes es a menudo considerado mala suerte. El hecho de que tienes que ir al edificio de oficinas es prueba de ello.

Admiro a los arquitectos, no es nada facil a proyectar un edificio que sea seguro, funcional y agradable a la vista.

I admire architects, it is not very easy to design a building that is safe, functional and pleasant to the eye.

Alguien completó los diseños para un edificio muy grande- lo que tendría cuatro mil metros de altura (y sería tan alto como Monte Fuji) y lo que podría alojar más de quinientas mil personas- pero nadie cree que se construirá nunca.

Someone completed the designs for a very large building- which would be 4000 meters tall (and be as tall as Mount Fuji) and which would be able to house more than five hundred thousand people- but nobody thinks that it will ever be built.

Palomas mas edificios es igual a un edificio adornado de caca de paloma.

Pigeons plus buildings equals a building decorated in pigeon poop.

Hay edificios que han resistido durante siglos y otras que ya no existen después de un tiempo relativamente corto.

There are buildings that have stood for centuries and others that no longer exist after a relatively short time.
