cuarto ( kwahr'-toh )

noun ( room; one fourth )

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a pm. Susy is unable to continue with this task as she has other obligations that require her attention. In the meantime, please help one another out as you are able.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. En mi cuarto no hay espacio suficiente para una cama y un armario.

There isn't enough space in my room for a bed and a dresser.

2. Esta receta requiere un cuarto de taza de leche.

This recipe requires a fourth of a cup of milk.

Enjoy Your Saturday!!!

Bueno, aquí en Andalucía tenemos habitaciones y dormitorios, o, quizás dormimos en tiendas en la playa, pero no hablamos mucho de cuartos aunque hay el cuarto de baño, o los servicios.

Here in Andalucía we have rooms and bedrooms, but we don't talk about quarters, although you can refer to the bathroom, or toilets, in this manner.

Castro "planta" its only for "planta baja"(first floor) and "planta alta"(last foor) so would it be "una habitación en el cuarto piso".. - 003e54f5, Aug 3, 2014

My bathroom is one fourth of my room and is as big as my Leo's room who never sleeps in his own room as he is always found in my room despite of having his own room because my room is bigger than his room and his room is a quarter of my room .. hehehehe ...

En el cuarto de mi casa en el que hago ejercicio la Internet solía funcionar muy mal, hasta que instalé un repetidor. Hoy en la habatación en que me estoy quedando la internet funciona muy mal, y creo que el hotel debería instalar un repetidor.

In the room of my house that I exercise in the internet used to work very poorly, until I installed a booster. Today in the room in which I am staying the internet functions very poorly, and I think that the hotel should install a booster.

I vote for your effort, without understanding a word, in either language. - annierats, Aug 2, 2014
You don't understand one word (repetidor/booster) or not any words? - bosquederoble, Aug 2, 2014
I think she must have meant "just one single word" because the sentences are quite beautifuly constructed and I understood them perfectly .. but as a matter of fact even I didn't know the meaning of "repetidor" but after reading the english counterpart " - 00b055e0, Aug 2, 2014
booster" now I understand what it means .. hehe .. thanks - 00b055e0, Aug 2, 2014
I think I could use repeater in English, but normally for wifi I call it a booster or signal booster. Thanks, Jimmy. :) - bosquederoble, Aug 2, 2014
Maybe I need a booster.. I am paying for high speed internet from Cox and sometimes not getting it. :( - rac1, Aug 2, 2014

These days many new houses are very large because everyone thinks that every child needs its own room. In the past when houses were small but families were large, three children or more used to share a room.
