So I'm doing my Spanish 3 homework and I am very confused. So the question is asking why the Spanish and the indigenous people of Mexico engaged in battle, but the part in the book that I am supposed to be looking at says nothing about a war or a battle... I'm thinking that maybe the answer is because of the religion that the Spanish forced on the people but I'm not exactly sure, if someone could please verify that I'm right or explain why I'm wrong that would be much appreciated.

I don't know what level your Spanish is. There are lots of articles in Spanish and English about Cortés. The problem is history is written by the victors not the losers. Is your book in Spanish?

I remember in one Spanish lesson, we discussed a book by Laura Esquivel about La Melinche who was Nahuat and acted as an interpretor for Cortés She later became his mistress and bore him a son. You may find seeking out her tale will answer your question. She did exist. Here is a summary in Spanish

Which book are you working from?

How about you post the page or a link to it and we can see if we can help a bit more.
