I can't understand what this speaker is saying. Can anyone help?

Question

I'm taking a Spanish course and the assignment I'm doing right now asks me to listen to a speaker and respond. Since posting entire course assignments is against policy in many places I will just share the portion I am stuck on:

I can't get the first word. The rest of the sentence is "... patio cuando eras nino?" so I know it's something to do with a playground in my childhood. The first word sounds like "barrio" which would make sense (neighborhoods have parks) if I wasn't looking for a verb to start the sentence!

Can anyone understand this better?

You are almost there! He says 'barrías' which is the imperfect of 'barrer' to sweep - so you are being asked 'did you sweep the yard when you were a child?' You picked up the double r. What level of Spanish have you reached? Is English your native tongue?

Thank you! I guess I got stuck on the neighborhood thing and didn't think of other conjugations of potential verbs. I''m in the middle of 2nd year Spanish, and English is my native tongue. Eventually I would like to get fluent so I'll keep practicing. - Mercuryred, Jul 10, 2014
