gringojrf is right, but there is more. Sometimes tener( to have) is used to mean "am/are/is" when combined with certain other words. [See Chart]
So (for example) no tengo hambre means ~ I am not hungry. No tienes miedo ~ You are not afraid.(familiar you form) and No tiene miede ~ You are not afraid. (formal you form)
Next example is "off the chart:" No tiene éxito ~ He or she is not successful. or You are not successful (formal you form). - Hope you will be successful with your Spanish studies!
