Dele B1 What Do You Think About It ?

Question

Third time of trying to post. I recently went to Miami and passed the DELE B1.

Here is what DELE say about this:-

The Diploma in Spanish (DELE) level B1 accredits language users’ capacity to: •Understand the gist of clear texts, in standard language, if they involve well-known topics related to work, studies or leisure. •Deal with most of the situations that may arise during a trip to where the language is used. •Produce simple, coherent texts about well-known topics or issues of personal interest. •Describe experiences, events, wishes and hopes, as well as briefly justify opinions or explain plans

My question to those who know is, how would you rate the B1 of DELE on the path to language competence ? I have heard many different opinions from "it is little more than Basico Uno" , to," it means you can have a conversation with someone who wants to have a conversation with you"

What I'm interested in is, what do you think of this standard ?

Second DELE is widely recognized. See this except.

DELE (Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language) is the official accreditation of the degree of fluency of the Spanish Language, issued and recognised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain. The Instituto Cervantes is the institution in charge of organising the exams, while the University of Salamanca is in charge of the preparation, correction and final evaluation of all the tests.

Whilst accepting that we are all different, how many hours of non-immersion study, would you think is the 'norm' to achieve a B1 or B2. I realize that we differ greatly in our intelligence, aptitude and dedication.

I've heard of the DELE before but never really thought much about it.

I've been poking around the site and I noticed they have a lot sample material, written and audio. I've downloaded most of it and I plan on taking a look at it. It looks like some pretty good stuff. Even if you aren't planning on taking the exam I recommend taking a look at the materials.

I've studied the B1 but, due to travelling, I couldn't take the exam. During the course I found I'd already covered much of the content in an advanced class run by our local town hall in Malaga, and GCSE A Level in the UK - although the B1 did include the subjunctive as an extra. To me it was a great refresher course but I didn't learn anything new and in retrospect I'd like to have done the B2. It's not a basic course but then not particularly advanced either. I'm not sure how helpful I've been but thought I'd let you know my thoughts.

Yes I think so because it includes more verb tenses. The format is quite different: in the A Level you prepare a topic for the oral, whereas in the B1 you don't know beforehand what topics you will come up against. - pml222, Jul 1, 2014
