Yes, idioma is the principal Spanish word for language wink

Ex: Todos ellos hablan cinco idiomas = They all speak five languages.

For example : idioma nativo = native language or lengua materna = mother tongue

I think that there is a difference in the way that the words idioma and lengua are used but I cannot remember the subtle distinction.

Yes and more, it is easier and faster to type the word you want to know in the translator. If you type only one word it works like a dictionary giving definitions and context examples.
