Hello Cats,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum: smile

The basic difference is that:.......

The verb, trabajar = to work (relates to people working in various jobs/occupations)

p.ej:; Trabaja en un banco = He works in a bank.

funcionar = to function (relates to machines functioning) Although we also use the words; work/working in English to apply to machines, the Spanish use the more specific verb which translates as: to function

p.ej: Un huésped: << Quiero quejarme porque el ascensor ahí no funciona >>

Una recepcionista: << Señor, esa puerta ahí no es la puerta del ascensor ...¡es un armario! >>

= Guest: " I want to complain that the lift over there does not work (is not working)"

A female receptionist: "Sir, that door over there is not the door to the lift (lift door) it's a cupboard!" wink

I hope this helps :smile
