Leí que el rey español, Juan Carlos ha abdicado. ¿qué significa esto para los amigos españoles ?
Por otra parte quisiera saber las opiniones de todos ustedes de la monarquía y de la república.
I read that the Spanish king Juan Carlos I abdicated. What does this mean for our Spanish friends ? On the other hand I would like to know the views of all of you about the monarchy and the republic.

King Juan Carlos was forced to make an unprecedented public apology in April 2012 after widespread outrage over an elephant hunting trip to Botswana.The private safari at a luxury lodge, which came when the nation was suffering deeply unpopular austerity measures, became public knowledge when the monarch was flown home for emergency surgery after breaking his hip.The trip sparked rumours of an “intimate relationship” between the King and Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, a German aristocrat 28 years his junior who had accompanied him on the ill-fated safari.It also prompted the World Wildlife Fund to drop King Juan Carlos as a patron of the organisation.
¡Bueno, no puedo decir, de verdad, que estoy sorprendido nada ...porque, aparte del hecho que ha abdicado por motivos de salud, aparentemente su popularidad ha estado decreciente después mucho tiempo, por varias razones: primero, su decisión inoportuna ir a cazar elefantes, una decisión que coincidí con los problemas económicas que la mayoría de la gente española estaba sufriendo.
Segundo, las acusaciones contra su yerno: Iñaki Urdangarin, por motivos de corrupción. Lo acusaron de malversación de fondos públicos.
Tercero, su hija estaba implicada en las transacciones de negocios ilegales de su marido y las autoridades están haciendo averiguaciones sobre ella por motivos de fraude.
Well, I can't say that I am at all surprised , because, apart from the fact that he abdicated on grounds of ill health, his popularity has apparantly been decreasing (waning) for a long time for various reasons: firstly, his ill-timed decision to go elephant hunting ...a decision that coincided with the economical problems that the majority of the Spanish people were experiencing.
Secondly, the accusations against his son in law: Iñaki Urdangarin, on the grounds of embezzlement of public funds. Thirdly, His daughter has been implicated in her husband's illegal business dealing and is under investigation by the authorities for tax fraud!
While no-one who works in public office can ever be perfect, I think it is perfectly (completely) reasonable for the Spanish people to expect that individuals who work in positions of responsibility in their country that require people to be trustworthy, act in a responsible manner and do not abuse their positions of power and trust!
I am neither a republican nor a monarchist. (I am politically moderate) We have had some terrible world leaders (Dictators) in history: Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Sadam Hussein, Caecescu etc... who have oppressed their people while living in luxury at their expense! These leaders cannot possibly expect to enjoy the respect of their people if they act in such an insensitive way! They may be feared, but seldom ever loved!
Conversely , we have had some good monarchs like the present queen of England Elizabeth 2nd who has represented England magnanimously and showed kindness, affection and genuine concern for the welfare of her people and other people around the world who are suffering abuse.
Pues, Se dice tercera vez suerte ¿no? 1873 - 1874 then 1931 - 1939 and now 2014?

Pues. yo no sé porque razón cuando oí la noticia, se me cayeron las lágrimas... Y el caso es, que no soy monárquico... como se dice aquí... soy "juancarlista" . El rey es muy español, muy campechano y muy buena gente, y lo más importante, nos libró de golpe de estado, que de no ser por él, quizás estaríamos ahora mismo como en Cuba.
Cualidades que creo que no tiene el hijo Felipe.... Así que me temo.... que no durará mucho....pues es un sentimiento general....
De hecho, la abdicación ha sido tan repentina debido a que en las elecciones europeas han ganado votos los grupos políticos de extrema izquierda, empezando a perder votos los dos principales grupos políticos, los cuales en su mayoría si son monárquicos.
Para que se produzca correctamente la abdicación en su hijo Felipe, se necesita aprobar una Ley Orgánica que requiere la mayoría de los parlamentarios. Ahora mismo sí se puede sacar adelante esta Ley, pero posiblemente en dos años no lo veo tan probable....
