Hi,

I'm back asking about my boyfriend.smile

He calls me his "media naranja". What does he mean exactly? He's from El Salvador, I'm American. He tells me its special....but of course I translate it to "half an orange"? Google tells me its everything from girlfriend who is really nice all the way to soulmate. But I want an opinion from someone who uses this phrase and actually understands it

Native Speakers please who understand the underlying meaning of his phrase.

Ser la media naranja de alguien means to be the perfect person for another person, soulmate..

I looked this up before and the translations I found were "Your better half", "soul mate" and simply "your significant other".

You can read this, but everyone seemed to have a different definition. Maybe it's regional. But at the end of the day it does refer to your pareja. The level of affection you feel for that person is what seems to be in question.
