izquierdo ( ees-kyehr'-doh )

adjective ( left )

Sylyon1976 will correct the Spanish sentences as her time permits. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

1. Cuando escribo con mi mano izquierda, los resultados parecen los garabatos de un niño pequeño.

When I write with my left hand, the results look like the scribbles of a small child.

2. Y si miran al lado izquierdo, pueden ver el Edificio Aritzía, el primer rascacielos de Santiago y el primer edificio de oficinas con un ascensor en el país.

And if you look to your left, you can see the Aritzía Building, Santiago's first skyscraper and the first office building in the country with an elevator.

En Australia se conduce por el lado izquierdo de la carretera.

In Australia we drive on the left side of the road.

La mayoría de las carreras de Nascar requieren los controladores para hacer un giro a la izquierda contionuous.

Most Nascar races require the drivers to make on continuous left turn.

El autobús se paró de repente a media carretera. El conductor se arragó el pecho con ambos manos gritando - Aooo.¡Me duele el lado izquierdo! ¡Mi corazón!

Las campesinas y la monja se miraron y se inclinaron las cabezas.

-¿ Juan, quieres acompañarnos ? le preguntó la campesina inglesa al muchacho.

¡Que sí! Juan no quería quedarse solo en el autobús con el conductor caído desplomado sobre el volante, quizás muerto.

The bus came to a sudden stop in the middle of the road. The driver clutched at his chest with both hands crying out '' Oh, ow,ow! My chest hurts! On the left hand side, oh, my heart!''

The eyes of the countrywomen and the nun met and they nodded at each other. '' Would you like to come with us, Juan ?'' asked English countrywoman.

Most certainly! Juan didn't want to be left alone in the bus with the driver, who had collapsed over the steering wheel, quite possibly dead.

Algunas personas se inclinan hacia la derecha, mientras que otros se inclinan hacia la izquierda.

Some people lean to the right, whereas others lean to the left.

Creo que este análisis tiene razón, hoy en día la izquierda y la derecha no son diferentes.

I think that this analysis is right, nowadays the left and right are not different.

I am continuing the story from yesterday. Please feel free to correct my Spanish. I put "que viene" as I know one says "la semana que viene" etc but I am unsure if this is correct in this context. - languagenut, May 30, 2014
sure dear friend ,, it is my pleasure to make an attempt hehe .. so here we go ::: - 00b055e0, May 30, 2014
a la izquierda del principe había una sombra larga, fue un indicio/ una señal del peligro inminente ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ - 00b055e0, May 30, 2014
now as far as "que viene" is concerned, your logic seems partly correct ,, because que viene would mean "that which is coming" (comimg for sure, without a doubt) - 00b055e0, May 30, 2014
Thanks Jimmy. As you can see now, I have corrected my sentences. Hope this is ok. - languagenut, May 30, 2014
so if you wish to use the "que viene " adjectival clause any way .. then in my opinion u need to use the subjunctive in this adjectival clause ... "de un peligro que venga " (because the rule for the use of subjunctive in adjectival clauses is antici - 00b055e0, May 30, 2014
anticipation (in relation to the antecedent) and here the antecedent "un peligro" is anticipated (and not sure to come to pass like next week, mext month etc.) - 00b055e0, May 30, 2014
but this is a little complicated grammatical twist and I would say you better check this one "que viene" thing with some expert ... because in my opinion it should take a subjumctivenin this context .. - 00b055e0, May 30, 2014

No soy zurda, pero cuando viene a la mecanografía, mi mano izquierda es más rápido que mi mano derecha.
