What does the word "viperinas" mean?
The sentence is "No puede decirse, entonces, o algunas lenguas viperinas han insinuado, que hayamos sido víctimas del amor a primera vista".
I couldn't search it.
Also, what does "cafard" mean? "Fue más bien el cafard lo que nos unió".

Look for the word "viperine" in English.
:-D
I agree with rac1 that this is most likely the use of the French word ( le cafard ) for " depresjon", " the blues" and similar sentiments.
The Spanish verb " chafar " can mean amongst other things " to be feeling down ".
My guess therefore at a translation would be:
" it was rather ( more ) depresjon / the blues that brought us together ( united us )
"Fue más bien el cafard lo que nos unió".
