Hello Abbey,
I am taking lessons with a Spanish native teacher from Spain and I recently asked her more or less the same question as you are asking us here:
I asked something like: Do I have to use a mí before me gusta or can I just say: Me gusta su compañía = I like his (or her) company (This wasn't my actual example, I can't remember which one i used))
You can use either form because both are acceptable
Sí, a mí me gusta cocinar o Sí, me gusta cocinar
The full version is: A mí me gusta + infinitive (form) of chosen verb, but Spanish people (natives) frequently just say: me gusta .etc....
Ex's;
1.Me gusta cocinar = I like cooking (literally: cooking is pleasing to me)
2.Me gusta ir de vacaciones = I like going on holiday.
I hope this helps
Mi' Gusto Mucho
