My thanks to both of you for your quick response. We have Spanish-speaking patients and my high school Spanish (45 years ago) just isn't good enough.

Having allergies is a permanent thing, so ser is used. And my dictionary gives zumaque venenoso for poison ivy.
¿Eres alérgico al zumaque venenoso'
