ala ( ah'-lah )

noun ( wing; branch (of a political party) )

Sylyon1976 will correct the Spanish sentences as her time permits. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

enter image description here

Example:

1. El colibrí amatista puede agitar las alas hasta ochenta veces por segundo.

The Amethyst Woodstar hummingbird can beat its wings up to 80 times per second.

2. Al ala más liberal del partido no le gustó la última versión del proyecto de ley.

The more liberal wing of the party didn't like the latest version of the bill.

3. No podemos esconder la cabeza bajo el ala y fingir que este problema no existe.

We cannot bury our heads in the sand and pretend that this problem does not exist.

Notes:

"Ala" is a feminine noun, but in the singular, it takes the masculine article "el" so that the "a" in "la" and the first "a" in "ala" don't blend into each other.

To prevent errors, everyone please note that although ala is feminine, it takes the masculine article in the singular for reasons of sound. Adjectives remain feminine. Just like agua. "El ala", "las alas". - bosquederoble, May 25, 2014

Escondido bajo la falda de la monja y sentado al suelo del aoutobús, Juan se sentió mareado. Se dio cuenta de que la monja tenía las piernas bastante peludas como si fuera un hombre.El pobrecito Juan. ¡ Ojalá que tuviera alas, o a menos, pantalones! Le tenía envidia a los pájaros por poder volar.

Hidden under the nun's skirt and sitting on the floor of the bus, Juan felt motion-sick. He discovered that the nun had rather hairy legs, as if she were a man. Poor Juan, if only he had wings, or at least trousers! He envied the birds their ability to fly.

great thought my friend ... but may I suggest few correction (humbly) .. 1st ,, the conjunction "que" can not be omitted in Spanish (the way we omit "that" in english many a times) ..2nd . you are expressing a desire in the main clause (followed by - 00b055e0, May 25, 2014
(followed by a noun clause) so it triggers a subjunctive in the subordinate noun clause (the one that starts with que) - 00b055e0, May 25, 2014
and 3rd and the last one : junto in this sentence is used as an adverbio and not as an adjetivo .. as it is associated with the verb trabajar (and not with some noun) so we can't make it plural as adverbs don't change form (adjectives do) - 00b055e0, May 25, 2014
but if you are a beginner (as I read from your profile) then I must say ,, it is a great try .. rest will come with time .. hehe - 00b055e0, May 25, 2014

if you may insist on using "para que" any way .. then you may .. but in that case "para que" would trigger a subjunctive in the adverbial clause .. so it would be as follows : - 00b055e0, May 25, 2014
