Pero sofia y José, ¡ Comen or Comeis, Demasiado.

Hi, "Comen" would be the best as it refers to "Ellos"(they). "Comeis" is used with the pronoun "vosotros"(you-all).
Pero sofia y José, ¡ Comen or Comeis, Demasiado.
What a fascinating question!
I would suggest that this question cannot be answered adequately without further context. Consider the following two scenarios:
Scenario 1: You and a couple of friends (we'll call them Sofía and José) are having a lighthearted conversation about your respective eating habits, and they are teasing you about your particular proclivity for overindulgence. At a certain point, you shoot back, playfully, "But Sofía and José, you guys eat too much!"
In this case, you are speaking directly to José and Sofía, and if you were in Spain, you would employ the vosotros form of the verb and say, "Pero Sofía y José, ¡coméis demasiado!" On the other hand, if you were in other Spanish speaking regions of the world, and the same scenario were to occur then you would instead opt for the ustedes form of the verb ("comen"). In neither case would the meaning changethe only difference here being the regional variation that occurs in verb form when speaking directly to a group of people (i.e. vosotros used in Spain with close acquaintances and ustedes used in most other Spanish speaking regions).
Scenario 2: You are having a conversation about Sofía and José, and during the conversation about their eating habits, you exclaim, "But Sofía and José, they eat way too much." In Spanish, you would use the third person, plural conjugation "comen" to speak about them.
There is something missing in you sentence / question.
If , as I think, that you are saying to two people that they are eating too much it would be:
" pero Sofia y José ¡ coméis demasiado ! "
" but Sofia and José ( you two ) are eating too much !
If on the other hand you are stating a fact and telling someone that Sofia and José eat too much, it would be:
" pero Sofia y José ( ellos ) comen demasiado "
" but Sofia and José ( they ) eat too much "
Please correct me if I've misunderstood. Buena suerte!
If the question is which form of the verb (comen or comeis) agrees with the subject: Sofía y José to mean "Sofia and Jose eat too much" then you need comen the 3rd person plural present indicative form of the verb. The word coméis is the form of the verb that would agree with the subject (vosotros - plural "you
usually not written or spoken and requires the written accent mark over the "e". This is used more commonly in Spain and not commonly in American Spanish. It is grammatically the 2nd person plural present indicative form of the verb.
Comen in this case.
Coméis is "you-all/ you guys, etc..." and used in Spain.
I am sure the individuals currently learning spanish from Spain can add to this as I haven't l been there since I was young.
Hi Feliz:
When speaking about some people you would say:
(Ellos) comen demasiado sandías = They eat too many watermelon
Edit: Comen demasiadas sandías.
Hello again Elie, ![]()
The form coméis which is used together with vosotros is used almost exclusively in Spain, I do not know of any other Spanish-speaking country in the world where this form is still used.
I believe that they use vos in Argentina but I cannot remember why they use it/ for what purpose and I'm hoping our friend here from Argentina can explain. ![]()
The most important thing is to make sure that which ever form you use you form it and use it in the correct way:
When speaking about some people you would say:
(Ellos) comen demasiado sandías = They eat too many watermelons.
When speaking directly to two friends you would use the form (say):
(Vosotros) coméis demasiado = You eat too much
I am learning Castellano: the Spanish spoken in Spain and receiving lessons/taking classes via Skype with a lady from Spain.
I hope this helps.![]()
