Locura vs. loquera

Locura vs. loquera

These two words can be interchangeable in some ways... what do you think is the best way to say this:

Gracias.

La loquera = the attendant or the place where locos are

La loquería = the place where locos are and it might also describe a chaotic situation.

locura = insanity

:-D

In Spain we don't use loquera in the same way as locura. Loquera in Spain is the psychiatric attendant (pejorative)

Hope this helps and maybe somebody from the another Latin country can answer your question. smile

hmm .. i agree ... though i dont know much about loquera .. so i am not answering myself .. just waiting for others to answer so i could gain some knowledge .. hehe - 00b055e0, May 22, 2014
- jphip, May 22, 2014
Hay muchos más ejemplos. - jphip, May 22, 2014
- jphip, May 22, 2014
- jphip, May 22, 2014
O la loquera puede ser el "shrink." - jphip, May 22, 2014
ohhh ..ok ... now I understand my friend .. thanks for the detailed explication :) - 00b055e0, May 22, 2014

We use them interchageably when referring to "crazy stuff" and the like.

But loquera also means loony bin, whereas locura never means that

I don't know much about the word "loquera", but I did find these examples:

And these examples with "locura":

I couldn't really find anything with "loquera" in this context. I am not a native, but "locura" sounds better.

This is very interesting. I am really curious about whether or not they are interchangeable. I have a friend in Puerto Rico that tells me they are not. I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just asking. Is there a resource we can refer to? Thanks!

¡Gracias!
