íntegro ( een'-teh-groh )

adjective ( complete, whole; honest, upright )

Sylyon1976 will correct the Spanish sentences as her time permits. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1. Nunca he leído la edición íntegra de "Guerra y paz", sólo la versión reducida.

I've never read the unabridged edition of "War and Peace," only the abridged version.

2. Debes llevar tu carro a ese mecánico. Él es un hombre muy íntegro.

You should take your car to that mechanic. He is a very honest man.

Cuando era niña, mi tia me dio su conjunto íntegro de los libros Nancy Drew. Había varios autores que escribían esos libros bajo el seudónimo Carolyn Keene. Siempre he pensado que Carolyn Keene era solo una persona.

When I was a child, my aunt gave me her full set of Nancy Drew books. The books were written by numerous authors under the pen name Carolyn Keene. I always thought Carolyn Keene was one person.

A veces los periodistas no pueden publicar las ediciónes integras de sus reportes debido a presiones políticas.

Sometimes the journalists can't publish the unabridged editions of their reports because of political pressures.

Es una lástima que mucha gente dedique su sueldo íntegro a la hipoteca.

It's a shame that a lot of people's entire pay check goes towards the mortgage.

Hace ocho o diez semanas me compré un coche nuevo, un coche de segunda mano. Desde entonces he tenido muchos problemas y en este momento el coche , un Mini, está en el taller porque necesita un cojinete de desembrague nuevo. El vendedor no me parece un hombre íntegro nada más.

Eight or ten weeks ago I bought myself a new car, a second hand car. Ever since then I've had problems and just now the car is in the workshop because it needs a new clutch bearing. I no longer think the salesman is a man of integrity.

¿Qué harías si encuentaras algún dinero en la calle? Pero, antes de que contestas, recuerda, que una persona íntegro le buscaría quien lo ha perdido .

What would you do if you found some money in the street.? But, before you answer, remember, that an honest person would look for whoever lost it.

hello friend .. please allow me to suggest a correction .. Qué harías si encuentraras .... - 00b055e0, May 21, 2014
this is a contrary to fact if clause where we need to use conditional in the main clause and imperfect subjunctive in the if clause .. - 00b055e0, May 21, 2014
you have used the subjunctive but you have used the regular present subjunctive which is rarely used in if clauses .. if the if clause is a regular one (where the likelihood of the event happening is not very unlikely or is rather likely) then use indicat - 00b055e0, May 21, 2014
then use the indicative in the if clause as well as the main clause and if it is a contrary to fact if clause (where we are talking about some unreal or unlikely situation) then use conditional in the main clause and imperfect subjunctive in the if clause - 00b055e0, May 21, 2014
hope I didn't confuse you hehe .. ok now coming back to the money .. well I will simply buy some food and feed it to some stray dogs .. that is the best use I can think of .. hehe - 00b055e0, May 21, 2014

Jimmy , me confused? ..yes , just a little , - aocroc, May 22, 2014
don't be confused my friend .. it is very easy .. can I do some thing to allay your confusion ?? - 00b055e0, May 22, 2014
My friend .. Subjunctive is an extensive topic and whats more gruesome is that its rules vary based on the kind of grammatical clauses you are dealing with .. like noun clauses, adjective clauses, adverbial clauses, if clauses ,, so what I would suggest - 00b055e0, May 22, 2014
is that you might want to peruse through the previous posts on Subjunctives and if you still don't get the answer .. we can then ask Annie to allow me to do another post for you(And other friends ofcourse) specially on if clauses .. - 00b055e0, May 22, 2014
thanks for all that , but I think that it is gradually sinking in - aocroc, May 22, 2014
ok .. cool .. but if you need any help ever .. you can send me a PM .. I am not an exeprt but I will try my best to help if I can .. take care .. regards //jimmy - 00b055e0, May 22, 2014
