"median" or "median strip"

"median" or "median strip"

I didn't find the translation in SpanDict for median, as in the median between two lanes of traffic. I was trying to figure out how to say landscaped median. I know that in Mexico it's called "camellon" or "camellon central"; However, I don't think that word or word phrase works outside of Mexico.

Here is another consideration, at least in some parts of the world- see number 4 in the RAE for Guatemala and Mexico.

http://lema.rae.es/drae/?val=camellón

camellón

(De camello, por la forma).

  1. m. caballón.

  2. m. camelote1.

  3. m. Chile.

Hi Ron...maybe this will help.

From the RAE

[Median strip][1] n (division between two lanes of a motorway) mediana nf

The red car swerved to avoid the blue car and landed on the median strip facing the wrong way.

Tras dar tres vueltas de campana, el coche acabó atravesando la mediana de la autopista.

Argentina línea media (de avenida, autopista, ruta) nf

El chofer se quedó dormido y el micro se desvió un poco de la línea media.

Thanks Andre...it must be an SD thing today. I've had trouble doing other things here today as well. - rac1, May 21, 2014

In Argentina a landscaped median is a "boulevard."

Also, I found this: "mediana ajardinada" - rac1, Jun 7, 2014
For the strip? Boulevard here is the road with trees or flowers on either side and the center. - rac1, Jun 7, 2014
