There's a lengthy discussion over at DuoLingo about whether one can say "Gracias por venir" and, if so, whether there is a difference in meaning, however subtle, between that and "Gracias por haber venido." I'd like to hear what a native Spanish speaker who is picky about language has to say about it.

I would as well... that sounds interesting. :-D - NikkiLR, May 20, 2014
I'd rather hear what 8 or 9 out of ten average native speakers would say. - gringojrf, May 20, 2014
gracias por venir is very common. I would vote 100 times if I could. - jphip, May 21, 2014
