Aprender de or aprender sobre?

How do you say to learn "about" something (a noun... NOT "how" to do something). I have seen both aprender de and aprender sobre, but I'm not sure if there is a difference between the two. If they are both acceptable could you give an example of how to properly use each one? Thank you!

There are probably regional differences, but in Mexico, ie: I want to learn a new language .... Quiero aprender un nuevo idioma. Or: I want to learn how to do this .... Quiero aprender como se hace esto.

To find out something / to learn (about) something. ie; Yesterday I learned that she had got married ..... Ayer me enteré de que ella se había casado.

Aprender de, however it would be better to use "enterarse de" or "saber de".

I hope this helped.

Hello Happy,

Context is very important!. Next time you post a question, please provide an example/some example sentences to show how you intend to use the word/expression you want to know about. Thank you smile

When you say, to learn about something, do you mean:

1 to hear news of something? You would use the verbal construction: tener noticias de (conjugated to the correct tense and person)

ex: I haven't heard from them for months = Hace meses que no tengo noticias suyas.

or 2. To learn/to be informed about something/to find out about something?: You would use the verbal construction:enterarse de / saber de

ex: I have just found out that she moved house last month! = Acabo de enterarme que se mudó de casa semana pasada.

or 3, to gain knowlede /To learn about some subject?: **aprender ** + de / sobre

ex a; I have learnt from my mistakes.= He aprendido de mis errores.

ex b . I have learnt some interesting, new facts about bees. = He aprendido de algunos hechos nuevos y interesante, acerca de las abezas.

Examples, 1 and 3a courtesy of Oxford Spanish Dictionary (4th/most recent edn) All other examples, my own.

I hope this helps smile

Corrijan mi español, por favor smile
