Use of the word "lo"

I am studying with Rosetta Stone and have come across this phrase: El hombre este listo para trabajar, pero su mujer no lo esta.

Can someone please clarify how the word lo is being used. I know it used a direct object pronoun and has other uses but have not come across this one.

Thank you. Derek

In this case lo is used as an abstract thing and is neuter gender. It replaces the wordy repeticious phrase of; no está lista. The phrase could be spoken the wordy way and it would be grammatically correct, but it would sound very elementary and unnatural.
